At MindNest Counselling, our mission is to offer high-quality, compassionate care for children, youth, adults, and families facing emotional challenges and mental health concerns—drawing on evidence-based, somatic, and humanistic therapies to support meaningful healing and growth.
At MindNest Counselling, we recognize that healing doesn’t always start with words. For many children, youth, and adults—especially those who’ve experienced trauma, sensory overwhelm, or neurodivergence—traditional talk therapy can feel out of reach.
That’s why we integrate sensory-based psychotherapy, an approach that supports emotional healing through the body and senses.
MindNest is founded and led by Oya Kurum-Halacoglu, MA, Registered Psychotherapist (RP). While MindNest is currently a solo practice, the work is supported through strong professional networks and clinical consultation.
Oya brings experience and specialized training in areas such as neurodiversity, trauma, anxiety, depression, and relational dynamics across the lifespan—from early childhood through adulthood.
What is Sensory-Based Psychotherapy?
At MindNest Counselling, we understand that some children and teens communicate best through movement, play, or sensation—not just words. That’s why we offer sensory-based psychotherapy—an approach that helps children and youth feel calm, safe, and understood by engaging their body and senses.
In our work with children, we combine evidence-based tools with creative, developmentally appropriate techniques such as play therapy, art-based activities, and sensory tools. This might look like using fidget items, drawing, movement, storytelling, or weighted objects in session to support regulation and expression.
These methods are especially helpful for children with big feelings, trauma histories, ADHD, autism, or sensory processing differences. Our goal is to meet your child where they are—using strategies that feel natural, playful, and empowering—so that therapy becomes a space for confidence, connection, and growth.
A Body-Aware Approach to Therapy
If you've ever struggled to put your experience into words—or felt like talk therapy alone wasn’t enough—you’re not alone. At MindNest Counselling, we offer an integrative, sensory-informed approach to adult therapy, recognizing that healing often happens through the body as much as the mind.
We combine evidence-based practices (like cognitive behavioural therapy, somatic psychotherapy, emotion-focused therapy, and nervous system regulation tools) with a warm, relational presence. Our sessions are designed to help you feel more grounded, more connected to your body, and more in tune with your emotional landscape.
Whether you're navigating trauma, anxiety, burnout, life transitions, or relationship dynamics, therapy at MindNest offers space to slow down, feel supported, and reconnect with your inner capacity for healing and change.
Sensory-Based Psychotherapy at MindNest Counselling
We provide trauma-informed, developmentally sensitive therapy that integrates sensory-based interventions to support regulation, safety, and engagement—especially in clients with neurodivergence, early relational trauma, or sensory integration challenges.
Our approach combines evidence-based tools (such as CBT, DBT, somatic techniques, and emotion-focused work) with creative and embodied modalities including play therapy, art-based expression, and sensory regulation strategies. These methods are carefully adapted to each client’s developmental stage and therapeutic goals.
MindNest Counselling is led by Oya Kurum-Halacoglu, MA, RP, a Registered Psychotherapist in good standing with the CRPO. We value collaboration with educators, physicians, OTs, and other professionals to support continuity of care and holistic well-being for each child, youth, or family we work with.
